Imagine suddenly losing everything you own, including a large house, and having to start over after a tragedy destroys everything – that’s the situation Vicky found herself in.
An earthquake in New Zealand robbed Vicky of everything.
So, she headed to Queensland, Australia, and started a new life there in a tiny house.
Her new sanctuary is located on a small piece of land she rented with other families in a small community where other tiny houses are already located.
In this community, there is a permaculture farm where food can be grown, as well as a yoga studio and treatment room offering massages, acupuncture, and more.
Vicky explains that she used to live in a regular-sized house in Christchurch, New Zealand, which was destroyed by earthquakes.
It was a tough time for her, so she moved to Australia and temporarily lived with friends in Sydney until she found a job and got her life back on track.
After her insurance rebuilt her house after six years, she had already started a new life in Australia and never returned to New Zealand.
“I wanted to live small after losing everything in an earthquake.
You start to wonder why you invested so much money in possessions and space, and then suddenly it’s all gone,” she says.
It took about five to seven years for Vicky to find the right builder.
Eventually, she landed in Queensland, where she found the best construction team and the greatest people.
Her tiny house was completed in just two months.
The exterior of Vicky’s beautiful house is made of Colorbond in the color Dune Matt, combined with black windows, and her wooden deck is equipped with white flowing curtains, lights, and functional mosquito nets.
Her house is connected to the normal power grid and is supplied with water from a well.
Her tiny house is 7.2 meters long with a small bump out over the hitch, making it a total of eight meters long.
She also has a beautiful garden and a place for wildflowers to attract bees.
Inside her tiny house, there is a lot of greenery, matching the rainforest outside, which can be seen through the windows.
Her wallpaper features plants and trees, and she spent hours searching for the perfect print for her wall.
The wallpaper was imported directly from the Netherlands from the artist.
Vicky’s interior design combines green, wood, and copper.
She has aqua blue copper lights she bought four years ago at a thrift store.
Her living room features a comfortable couch where her guests can also stay overnight.
The couch is in front of a glass door that offers a magnificent view of the outdoor greenery.
A shelf for personal items is built into the stairs, which also serves as storage and stairs.
Her beautiful kitchen has a window overlooking the nature outside, which makes her happy every time she looks at it. The openness of the space makes the kitchen feel spacious.
The bathroom features a modern shower, an elegant vanity, and a cabinet with a washing machine.
Above the bathroom is Vicky’s spacious sleeping loft.
It has a skylight through which she can watch the stars and a window for fresh air.
Vicky has been living in her beautiful tiny house for some time now and says it has exceeded her expectations.
Although there were challenges, like finding the perfect location and other things, the journey was worth it. With her current location, she couldn’t be happier.
Living in a tiny house offers her a touch of luxury that she couldn’t afford in a regular-sized house. These little things make waking up worth it every day.
